Aberystwyth, meaning ‘The mouth of the River Ystwyth’ and more affectionately known as ‘Aber’, has a valid claim to be the Celtic capital of culture in Wales. As well as being a university town, it’s also home to the National Library of Wales, which sits in an impressive building overlooking the town’s bay, ancient hillfort and castle ruins. The complex also houses the Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies and there are regular exhibitions, talks and tours to explore the vast archives and collections. Aberystwyth Arts Centre is a focal point for showcasing contemporary Welsh language and international culture across all art forms, including theatre, dance, music, the visual arts, storytelling and comedy
